SUMMARY:Seminar: Police Resiliency and Critical Incident Mindset
DESCRIPTION:Taught by Retired Captain Joshua Bitsko, one of three officers
who breached the suspect’s door during the 1 October Las Vegas mass
shooting, this course delivers experience based tools to improve officer p
erformance under stress. After presenting the first hour of this course at
last year’s 2024 NSA Summer Conference, nearly every attendee reque
sted more time. This year, Captain Bitsko will deliver the next portion, d
iving deeper into how physiological and emotional responses impact tactica
l performance. Backed by science and real world incidents, this session eq
uips officers and leaders with tools to improve decision making, regulate
stress, and build lasting resiliency before, during, and after critical in
cidents. Last year’s session drew a standing room only crowd, and wa
s the most attended session of the entire week.\n\n\nThis course is ground
ed in current research on stress response and mental health in law enforce
ment, combined with real-world critical incident experience. The emotional
regulation method taught in the course is research-based and was develope
d in collaboration with Dr. Tamara Herold, one of the nation’s leadi
ng police researchers. This practical, evidence-informed framework prepare
s officers to perform under pressure with clarity and control.\n\n\nhttps:
