SUMMARY:Seminar: The Next Generation of Corrections: Community-Based Reentr
y and Diversion Centers
DESCRIPTION:As law enforcement agencies look toward the future, sheriffs&rs
quo; offices are increasingly expected to play a larger role not only in c
ustody, but in prevention, rehabilitation, and successful community reinte
gration. This session explores how a modern sheriff’s office can dev
elop and expand community-based support centers and regional reentry progr
ams that reduce recidivism, strengthen public safety, and address the evol
ving needs of incarcerated or formerly incarcerated individuals.
\n\nUsing Worcester County, Massachusetts’ nationally recognized m
ulti-site Community Support Centers and Regional Reentry Center model as a
reference, this presentation examines how partnerships with local courts,
probation departments, state agencies, and local service providers can cr
eate a coordinated system of support outside traditional correctional faci
lities. Attendees will learn how integrated services, including behavioral
health referrals, substance use recovery support, workforce development,
education, housing, and transportation, can be delivered through a law-enf
orcement-led framework.
\n
\nThe seminar will also look ahead at
the future of community corrections, including case management, expanded
diversion opportunities, and the growing role of sheriffs as community con
veners. Participants will leave with practical strategies for building sca
lable, collaborative reentry infrastructures that align with the next gene
ration of public safety priorities.\n\n\nhttps://nsaconf.org
