SUMMARY:Seminar: Medicaid in Corrections: Insights from the Field
DESCRIPTION:In this session, the Health and Reentry Project (HARP) will fac
ilitate a panel that will highlight ongoing changes to Medicaid that have
important impacts on jails across the country, including recent statutory
changes. It will then turn to a facilitated discussion with Sheriffs and j
ail leadership who will identify how their facilities have met new require
ments and how HARP’s work has supported their efforts. This conversa
tion will focus on the operational realities of implementing these changes
as well as the potential public safety implications of these changes.\n\n
\nThe session will begin with a HARP overview of the state of Medicaid in
corrections, including explaining new Medicaid suspension requirements for
jails and updates on the status of ongoing work on 1115 reentry waivers a
nd the youth continuity of care requirements. Then, the panelists (to be d
etermined) will discuss their experiences operationalizing changes to meet
these new requirements, how these changes have improved public safety and
health outcomes, and the operational importance of these changes for thei
r jails. Where relevant, panelists will discuss how support from HARP to t
heir agencies helped them succeed. The panelist conversation will be follo
wed by questions and answers.\n\n\nHARP is a nonprofit organization that p
rovides no-cost technical assistance to jails across the county to better
leverage Medicaid to support reentry.\n\n\nhttps://nsaconf.org
