\nA c ornerstone of this discussion will be the operational model pioneered by t he Fairfax County (VA) Police Department’s (FCPD) Threat Assessment and Management (TAM) Unit. The TAM Unit exemplifies a modern, systematic a pproach by integrating law enforcement expertise with mental health and co mmunity services. Panelists from the FCPD and academic scholars will demon strate how the TAM and similar units identify, evaluate, and mitigate risk s before they escalate into physical harm.
