FEEDBACK
Increases in drug and multi-substance use by drivers call for more tools for law enforcement to enforce laws against drug-impaired driving. Oral fluid screening roadside can aid law enforcement officers (LEOs) that are not specially trained in drug impairment detection to identify drivers that may have recently consumed drugs who would otherwise escape detection. Like preliminary breath tests (PBTs) for alcohol, oral fluid tests can be used to screen for drugs and establish probable cause in combination with other evidence. Additionally, green labs offer hands on experience that can increase the skills of your deputies to detect cannabis impairment in drivers. This presentation will explain roadside oral fluid screening, how it is being used around the country, and how to successfully conduct a green lab. Speakers will share specific information on an Indiana roadside oral fluid screening program and a guide for conducting efficient, safe green labs for both the volunteers and law enforcement officers involved.
