The U.S. Department of Justice’s Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section oversees the Department’s Equitable Sharing Program. The Department shares approximately $350 million annually with approximately 6,000 state and local law enforcement agencies, including more than 1,500 sheriff’s offices throughout the country. In recent years, significant policy changes and reforms to the Asset Forfeiture and Equitable Sharing Programs have occurred. Most notably, the Department published the 2024 Joint Guide to Equitable Sharing for State, Local, and Tribal Law Enforcement Agencies that includes new policies and requirements for our state, local, and tribal Program partners.
