Detective Shannon Almborg joined the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office in 2013. In 2019 she became a detective in the Financial and Cybercrime Unit. Since 2022, Detective Almborg has primarily focused on cryptocurrency related scams and cybercrime cases, becoming one of the leading experts in blockchain investigations within state and local law enforcement in Virginia. Detective Almborg has made multiple cryptocurrency seizures, recently recovering over 1.4 million dollars’ worth of cryptocurrency, the largest recovery by a state/local agency in the state of Virginia. Detective Almborg is also a Task Force Officer on the FBI’s Cyber Task Force, where she leverages relationships with federal partners to pursue investigations across international borders. In 2024, Detective Almborg was named Deputy Sheriff of the Year by the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association for her work in cryptocurrency and cyber investigations.
