Sheriff Gabriel “Gabe” Morgan Sr. is currently serving his fifth term as Sheriff of Newport News, Virginia, a role he began in 2006. He oversees a staff of over 200 and manages a $15 million budget, providing court security, jail operations, civil process, and law enforcement services. A U.S. Army veteran with 21 years of service, Morgan has held leadership roles across military and law enforcement sectors, including as Special Agent-in-Charge for the Virginia DMV and Commander of a military confinement facility. Sheriff Morgan is a recognized leader in mental health reform, public safety, and youth violence prevention. He has served on numerous state and local boards, including Riverside Health Systems, Christopher Newport University’s Board of Visitors, and multiple gubernatorial commissions. A passionate advocate for justice, public service, and community well-being, Morgan continues to work toward a safer, more supportive Newport News.
