Rich VandenHeuvel has been a Principal with Health Management Associates since 2015 and is a national expert in evidence-based treatment for justice-involved individuals, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and integrated behavioral health care. He has provided coaching and technical support to over 70 local jail systems and several state corrections departments, and currently leads statewide Learning Collaboratives for jail-based MOUD (medications for opioid use disorder) expansion in California, Illinois, and Michigan. With nearly 25 years of prior experience in community behavioral health—as a clinician, care manager, CEO, and leader of managed care organizations—Rich brings deep expertise in reentry coordination, integrated care models, and Medicaid strategies, including work on Section 1115 waivers to support pre- and post-release services. He holds an MSW from Michigan State University and a BA in Psychology from Grand Valley State University.
